Chakravyuh

Poem by Dilip Chitre.
This poem was recited in the movie by the name of Ardh Satya. It explores the powerlessness of a man in the larger scheme of things.

Chakravyuh - Is a defensive battle formation in shape of a wheel (charka). It was considered to be the most difficult formation to break and often very confusing.

चक्रव्यूह में घुसने से पहले,
कौन था और कैसे था, ये मुझे याद ही न रहा|

चक्रव्यूह में घुसने के बाद मेरे और चक्रव्यूह के बीच,
सिर्फ एक जान लेवा निकता थी, इसका मुझे पता ही न चेलगा|

चक्रव्यूह से निकलने के बाद मैं मुक्क्त हो जाऊं भले ही,
फिर भी चक्रव्यूह रचना मैं फर्क ही ना पड़ेगा|

मरुँ या मारूं, मारा जाऊं या जान से मारदूं,
इसका फैसला कभी ना हो पायेगा.

सोया हुआ आदमी जब नींद से उठकर चलना शुरू करता है,
तब सपनों का सन्सार उसे दोबारा दिख ना पायेगा|

उस रौशनी में, जो निर्णय की रौशनी है,
सब कुछ समान होगा क्या?

एक पलड़े मैं नपुंसकता, एक पलड़े मैं पौरुष
और ठीक तराजू के कांटे पर
अर्ध सत्य!

What is the difference between a Sher, a Ghazal and a Nazm?

Urdu/Hindi/Hindustani poetry are of two forms

A Sher is a couplet. Its a very short verse consisting of very few lines. Plural of sher is aashar

Ghazal is a poetry where in there is no specific central theme. Each couplet(pair of lines)/Sher can be taken out separately from the poem and interpreted independently. Each paragraph in a ghazal can be a separate aashar/Sher. Each sher in a ghazal may or may not have any related to the previous sher/aashar.

A Nazm has a central theme. A line/couplet cannot be taken out of the Nazm and interpreted independently. Each line/paragraph is a continuation of the previous. Taking out a line/couplet would essentially destroy its meaning.

बात निकलेगी टी फिर दूर तलक जाएगी
लोग बेवजह उदासी का सबब पूछेंगे
ये भी पूछेंगे के तुम इतनी परेशां क्यूँ हो

उंगलियाँ उठेंगी सूखे हुए बालों की तरफ
इक नज़र देखेंगे गुज़रे हुए सालों की तरफ
चूड़ियों पर भी कई तन्ज़ किये जायेंगे
कांपते हाथों पे भी फिकरे कसे जायेंगे

तन्ज़ = Sarcastic comments

लोग ज़ालिम हैं हर इक बात का ताना देंगे
बातों बातों में मेरा ज़िक्र भी ले आयेंगे
उनकी बातों का ज़रा सा भी असर मत लेना
वर्ना चेहरे के तासुर से समझ जायेंगे

चाहे कुछ भी हो सवालात न करना उनसे
मेरे बारे में कोई बात न करना उनसे
बात निकलेगी तोह फिर दूर तलक जायेगी
